Being one of the most popular games on Steam, Insurgency has attracted many realistic-FPS fans. Having 90% of positive reviews from more than 63,000 people is enough to say that this game was (and still is) a commercial success. Therefore no one should be suprised after its developer (New World Interactive) announced that a sequel is going to be released in September 2018.
There isn’t much known about the game itself other than it will be in the same genre as its predecessor – it will remain a tactical multiplayer FPS. NWI revealed that it will feature a Story Mode which will be playable solo or in co-op up to 4 players. It’s definitely something new, as the previous game didn’t have such feature. Even thought, Sandstorm is gonna be primarily an online game. Thanks to the partnership with Epic, the game will run on the newest Unreal Engine 4.
According to a blog post, the game’s release will contain 3 new game modes: Push, Firefight and CtF (Capture the Flag) both for Versus and Co-op. Additionaly, “Outpost” is set to return in Sandstorm as well as an experimental mode called “Operation” – both modes will be released after the game is out, so you will have to wait some time. Luckily, there won’t be any loot boxes but the game itself will have cosmetic items that can be used to customize your character. It will also lack the integration with Steam Marketplace and item trading.
It’s already known that there will be about 40 weapons and special attachements at launch. The game will have “over 6500 lines of unique character dialogue” in many languages. Insurgency: Sandstorm will be constantly updated with free patches, improvements and new content.
These are just some of the upcoming features in the new installment of Insurgency series. If you’re interested, make sure to check out a video on YouTube which covers pretty much everything revealed so far by NWI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9TqA-jlXvE
